I am studying the potential environmental impacts and ecological significance of trace elements in aquatic industrial particles, including those present in treated oil sands process water released to the Athabasca River. The aim of my project is to determine which trace elements are directly bioavailable ionic species, and which are bioaccessible and may become bioavailable during ingestion to evaluate the risks to the health of aquatic ecosystems.
As a geologist specialized in geochemistry, I am experienced in analyzing trace elements and radiogenic isotopes at ultra-trace levels in ultra clean environments and my analytical expertise includes ICP-MS, LA-ICP-MS, and TIMS. My research interests primarily are the geochemistry and environmental fate of trace elements, particularly low-abundance trace elements, and isotopes in the environment from a variety of earth systems. This includes the development of accurate methods for trace element determination in different media.
I completed a PDF at the Gemological Institute of America, my PhD in Earth Sciences at the University of Alberta, and my BSc and MSc in Geosciences at the Goethe University, Frankfurt, Germany.
