Kayla is an Analytical Chemist with over a decade of experience. Her position at the SWAMP lab consists of sample preparation, instrumentation maintenance, sample analysis, and data processing. She has worked the majority of her career at the University of Calgary, namely at the Alberta Centre for Toxicology (ACFT) and Advancing Canadian Water Assets (ACWA). Her roles have included environmental analysis on drinking water and wastewater for organic and inorganic analytical suites. She also has extensive experience working on forensic drug toxicology on human matrices. She has experience with method development, data analysis and visualization, instrumentation, and troubleshooting.
Kayla graduated from Concordia University of Edmonton in 2014 with a B.Sc. specializing in Chemistry with a double minor in Biology and Psychology. Her focus was to take classes with as many laboratory components as possible to gain the most hands-on experience.
In her free time, Kayla enjoys playing sports, cooking, playing piano, and volunteers on multiple committees for nation-wide youth events. She also has toddler twins, Wren and Wesley, who keep her busy when she isn’t in the lab.
