Dr. Sundas Arooj Butt, Postdoctoral Scholar

Since 2020, Dr. Sundas A. Butt has been affiliated with the SWAMP Lab Group, where she began as a PhD student, later served as a Research Assistant, and is now a Postdoctoral Scholar.

Her research focuses on the release, transformation, mobility, and bioavailability of trace elements in terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems, with a particular emphasis on the role of atmospheric dust.

During her PhD, she investigated the use of peat bog waters as monitors for the reactivity of trace element in atmospheric dust. Earlier, during her Bachelor’s and Master’s studies at Arid Agriculture University, Pakistan, she examined the role of natural adsorbents (including clay minerals and biochar) in mitigating organic contaminants.

These experiences have provided her with extensive training in geochemistry, including analytical, aquatic, atmospheric, plant, and soil chemistry. They have also given her a broad and interdisciplinary foundation in soil and environmental science, contributing to a deeper understanding of how natural and anthropogenic processes influence trace element cycling in ecosystems.
